I've been a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) since 2002. I specialize in the evolving field of orthopedic massage with private practices in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah. I worked at a pain management clinic for two years. Knowledge passed on from the doctors was truly a gift. But I owe most of my success in pain management and rehab to experience gained while working with many wonderful people who came through that clinic. I also give much credit to James Waslaski and Ben Benjamine who's workshops provide essential training in the evolving filed of orthopedic massage. Prior to becoming an LMT I did rehab bodywork on horses and dogs. I still occasionally work on animals. They are marvelous, stoic, patient and quietly appreciative.
What's the difference? How does orthopedic massage get rid of pain and help repair damaged tissue when traditional massage alone does not?
Specific orthopedic massage, stretching and strengthening can, and does create significant lasting change in a short period of time. The difference is in the ability to assess what work is required in each situation, do detailed bodywork and focus on follow-up self care.
I have found this to be the case over and over working with clients both in a clinical setting and private practice. This work is not a magic bullet and there are conditions that cannot be appropriately treated with orthopedic massage, stretching and strengthening. Sometimes my work is over 90% effective, sometimes maybe only 10-20%. Much of the difference is determined by how you follow up with what is given you. I can help you get there.
